Which direction do they face?

So we are talking about potty training with Joshua and we bought him a Dora potty seat to put on the toilet and have been putting him on it before bath and in the morning. He does nothing but smiles at us and then plays with his guy. Nothing happening, and I don't expect it to, but as I'm putting him on the toilet, I realize the one day he decides to pee it will be in my face, not the toilet. I've tried to turn him around, but he's not thrilled about that. Is that the direction they're suppose to face?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

If you are having him sit down, face him like you normally would sit. We did the little potty when we started the potty training(instead of the seat on top of the regular toilet-J only used that a few times and didn't care for it). The little potty has a guard that is there to knock down the pee and put it in the bowl. We also taught J early to point it down when he pees (using his finger). It worked.

I know some people (Lisa) don't have her boys sit to pee at any point...they learn standing up.

Yep, I say teach them to stand. Way easier like that, especially in public bathrooms. Get him a little stool to stand on so he's tall enough.

That being said, we used the little seat on top of the toilet when they did need to sit. During those times, we did like Sarah described and had them push it down when they peed. It worked.

Good luck with it!

We also did the standing method. Dad can help with this one. You can use a stool to stand on or you can lift them up when in public places. Evntually his legs will be long enough for him to reach. Of course the pushing it down method works when there it is a number one/number two combo.

That's awesome that you got him a Dora potty.
