Happy Belated Birthday, Joshua!
This is belated, but I wanted to wish my little guy a happy birthday. Happy birthday to my little guy who knows what he wants and is stubborn enough not to be swayed by anyone. Much happiness to a little boy that brings such joy to our lives and loves to cuddle and have family hugs with his Mom and Dad. Gives his kisses sparingly, but when he does, they are great ones! Loves to play hide and seek in our bed and has taken to hiding around the house. A cautious one that has to observe for a long time before he decides to participate, a lover of trains and cars and one that can be so focused he can play with cars and trains for hours (well, minutes!). A good-natured, patient little boy that has been the best thing to happen to us! Happy 2nd birthday!
PS- After our 2 year checkup, we are 34 and 1/2 inches tall, weigh 26.8 pounds and has a head size of 49 cm (not sure the importance of this, but thought I would include it). definitely grew...we need new shoes already!
Here's some pictures of him from the past couple of years...

Words, words and more words..and a sentence!
It seems that Joshua is absorbing more and more information everyday and he amazes me with the amount of new words he now knows. It seems like he already knew or recognized a lot of the words, but all of a sudden decided that now would be a good time unleash them!
-Started with colors when he pointed out blue and yellow to me. I'm pretty sure that he recognizes red and green also, but he hasn't vocalized the actual words.
-Corn is 'popcorn'
-He can now name about half of the characters in Thomas the Tank. So that would be Thomas, Emily (this sounds more like "emmime"), Gordon and Toby
-Nooz is for Snoozers..a book he reads with Derek at night
-The cutest is when Derek comes home, he likes to run to the back door and say "Hello Dad". Tonight, instead of that he says, "Hi Dad. I see you, I see you!"
-Peas- this would be Please...he has mastered the art of saying please at just the right time...when he wants to watch "Thomas"!
-Sometimes if we say his name, he will shout, "Yes!"...other times when we are talking he will suddenly shout "Yes" again...makes me wonder what he understands now.
-If he is excited about something it becomes "Yea!". He does that when we get on an elevator or go for ice cream or for Chic-Fil-A. :)
He is definitely becoming much more opinionated and there are days when he says something to me and I cannot for the life of me decipher what he is trying to tell me. I feel bad that I can't understand him and I try really hard and he is actually a little patient and will repeat it several times. Unfortunately I end up giving up and just nodding my head. Hopefully he will forgive me for that. :)
Other than that we are in timeout quite a bit more than we used to be. Throwing of the cars has become our sticking point and he has to sit there quite a bit. Some days it's never, others (like today) it had to be at least 3 times. He doesn't like it and for an instant I feel bad because I wonder if it's because he's trying to tell me something and I can't understand or is it just because he didn't get his way? I think I can tell when he's mad about not getting his way, but there are times I wonder if I'm just punishing him for something he may not have done.
Well, I'm just rambling a bit now with my thoughts...feel free to contribute!

Summer, Summer, Summertime...
While I know I will be complaining in about 2 more weeks about the unbearable heat, I am excited to say that it's summertime around here. Our house has sunblock everywhere in every form (stick, lotion and spray), we have floats, towels and swimsuits hanging all around the house. Baby pool hanging up in the garage and coolers have been pulled out for the summer! Makes me want to listen to Will smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff singing/rapping (hence the title of the entry).
I think what also makes it more fun this summer is that Joshua is starting to enjoy going to the pool. I was a little worried about how he was going to do because as we all know, he is the cautious one. But our neighborhood pool has a little beach entrance and he can wade in the water at 6 inches, so he is getting comfortable with the motion of the water. He is also starting to enjoy me pulling him around the pool and he likes to very gently dip his face in the water. There is also this great section of spray water and fountains, so he likes to play there too. So, I'm looking forward to going to the pool with him. But I am taking it slow and we aren't signed up for swim lessons until later in the summer!
Here's a picture of him wading around in the shallow part of the pool. I didn't realize how much he had thinned out and gotten taller until I saw him in this picture.
