Hello, goodbye

The video is Joshua waving. What you can't see is me behind the camera waving at him to make him wave! He will actually wave if you say "bye-bye" to him, so we are very excited. Granted, he doesn't really understand what he is doing, but he is very proud of himself as he does it! In addition to waving, he is pulling himself up everywhere. It started last week with just pulling up on his toys, but he has quickly progressed to pulling up on us and on furniture. He has also started to cruise a little between furniture to people. It's amazing how fast he figured it out.

We have been watching too much basketball as of late, and I am getting tired of the playoffs already! I think it's because, 1)I don't get to watch the games i really want to because they are on too late (darn Eastern Time Zone) & 2)some of these series have just been boring. While I know the end is coming for the Rockets, I am still hoping they can pull out another win. Go Rockets!

Joshua has been a little difficult this past week. I think it's because he is getting his top teeth in. Plus, he has been screaming every time we put him in his crib, so that makes going to sleep a little painful for us.

And our last little tidbit from this past week is that our friend Anna came to visit. We had a great time with her and having her meet Joshua. She gave us permission to use her picture and even mention her in our blog. So, Anna, welcome to the blogging world! :)-

Saving the Earth

So in all the media this week, they have been talking up being green in celebration of Earth Day. I recycle, try and remember to bring my reusable bags to the store and even switch out light bulbs and up the temperature in the house. While I am trying to do my part and improve my 'carbon footprint', there was an interesting article in the NY Times talking about why we should even bother.  Makes you think about the difference you're hoping to make.  Take a look.

I just want some hope that the Rockets will actually put up a fight against Utah. They had such a great run with the 22 games and it's been so painful to try and watch the team play.

What do we like to eat?

     We love to eat everything, including anything we can find on the floor. I filled a shoebox with tissue paper and old scraps of wrapping paper for Joshua to explore.  He likes to take the tissue paper and rip it up.  He doesn't have the same reaction as this kid, but he likes to rip it and then he tries to sneak a look at me and then try and put the paper in his mouth.  He knows it's wrong and he tries to do it without being caught. You can just see it in his eyes that he hopes that he will get away with it.

     Joshua has also started pulling up!  He does it with his little Leapfrog Learning table and he does it quite adeptly.  He's also really good at grabbing and pinching me while he pulls up on me.  And since I cannot get him to sit still long enough for me to cut even 2 nails at a time, I am now a permanent scratching post.

It's playoff time

So we are looking forward to NBA playoffs starting today. My personal opinion is that the playoffs take too long. First and second round should be 5 games and then Finals 7 games....this lasting until June is a little ridiculous! We are cheering for the Spurs this afternoon and the Rockets tonight. Joshua is wearing his Rockets shirt, but it is too hot for his Spurs onesie. So, i've added the Spurs logo here to show our support.

We are thrilled that it is FINALLY Spring here in New Jersey. The weather has been in the 70s most of this week. It's weird to have to dress him in short sleeve shirts and shorts and no jacket. We can get out of the house so much faster these days!

The other picture is Joshua's latest trick. He has found out that he can hold his breath and turn his face really red. The picture doesn't due the moment justice, but you can see the bugged out eyes, super red face and clenched fists. He does it mainly for attention and around eating for some reason. At times it's really hard not to laugh at him, but I know if i do, it will encourage him to continue this!

Love these CDs

     In our effort to continue to be 'cool', i found these CDs for kids.  One is Baby Loves Hip-Hop and they are a band called Dino-5. It has rappers from Jurassic Park, The Roots and De La Soul....I love it probably more than Joshua does.

     There are interludes that set up the story about some dinosaurs who are scared of T-Rex and each song builds upon the previous interlude.  It is super cute and all of the songs are relatable.  So, for all of our friends that have kids or are just tired of listening to gangsta rap, this is the CD for you!

     Here is the website..the only other one I've listened to is Baby Loves Jazz (Go Baby Go). It's a great reinterpretation of classic kid songs.

So does it count as his first word?

Joshua has been going around these days chanting "Mamamam".....although he says it to anything among other consonants, does it count as his first word?  I would love it if it does.  What does everyon else think?

     So we have decided to join the blogging world to help keep up with the family that we're not near. We hope everyone enjoys taking a look at how we're doing here in New Jersey and to see how Joshua grows! Plus, I might every now and then just post a little opinion piece!

     These days Joshua is crawling and exploring everything he can.  He really enjoys our vertical blinds by our sliding glass door because they make a nice sound when he whacks them.  His other favorite place is playing with the vents on the wall and floor.

    This past weekend was a big weekend for us.  We had Joshua's baptism and if I do say so myself, he looked pretty dapper in his christening outfit!  It was a great weekend because we got to have both sets of grandparents, some friends and his aunt and uncle attend.  Joshua did great throughout mass and his baptism.  He was tired by the end of the day, but all in all he did wonderfully.
