Adventures in Houston

This past week was a busy one for us. Joshua started running a fever on Monday and it didn't break until Thursday...so we missed school and other activities for the week. Luckily, he wasn't in a bad mood at all, so that helped since we were in the house most of the week. He has also lost some of appetite from being sick. I say it's from being sick, but I'm not really sure lately. He had a big growth spurt and he definitely grew and leaned out a little..but I say I'm not sure because he hasn't been eating all that great this past week and he's currently better now...maybe now that he stopped his growth spurt he doesn't want to eat as much, but watching him eat 4 bites at dinner drives me up the wall...but I refuse to give him anything else to eat the rest of the night unless it's from Derek or my dinner.

We did make a trip to Houston to visit my parents and to attend a wedding. He had fun while we were there and he was good on the ride there. We got to visit our friends Jacob and Luke and play with their multitude of cars which made Joshua very excited. And Joshua got to spend quality time with his grandparents which he hasn't gotten to do very often. It's nice to see them interact and it warms my heart to see him get to know my parents. He was pretty well behaved at the wedding...we didn't last through the ceremony which I expected. We were able to see lots of relatives that we hadn't seen practically since Derek & I got married so it was a little overwhelming, but Joshua had fun. He even danced on the dance floor! By himself of course and before anybody started dancing...he wouldn't have gotten on if there were other people there! Here's a picture of him all dressed up and holding his favorite video.

The drive back was little rough. He fell asleep earlier than usual and we stopped halfway through for lunch/diaper change/rest. He wasn't the best behaved boy in the place that's for sure. We were fine until we got to Corsicana and he threw his cup, cars and blankets onto to the floor. So, we stopped there for 30 minutes to play and get out of the car. We finally see downtown Dallas and Joshua becomes impatient again. At this point, I am tired and refuse to stop when we're only 30 minutes from the house. Not the brightest idea, but I grabbed my laptop and while driving on I-35, attempt to turn it on...I succeed, but only after probably driving at 50 mph...not something I recommend!! We should probably get a DVD player, but we haven't needed one...until now!

I'm impressed that you can say the drive down was good. We do not have good car riders in our family. They get that from their mama, I guess.

It was nice to see you guys - Joshua is getting so big, but remains just as cute. :)

Erika. Erika. Erika. You turned on the laptop while driving?! While part of me is impressed (the part that likes to multitask when driving), the other part (the more sensible part) of me remembers your recent escapades at a gas station in Waco while I was on the phone with you. You driving and messing with the computer at the same time just makes me a little nervous. I'm just saying.... :)

Glad the trip went well!

Was Derek not in the car with you? Definitely not a fun trip if you're all alone. Yes, get him a mini DVD player for long car rides or you can also have Derek buy movies on iTunes and put them on his iPhone and Joshua can watch them in the car. We do that sometimes and the kids LOVE it. Now, if he throws the phone, that will not be good!! Hope this next week you are illness free at your house.
