What's been going on?

Not a lot and yet too much. The past couple of weeks have been a little hazy, but things are starting to slow down. Derek had to work for 2 weeks straight(weekends included) at the end of January and then was out of town for a few days at the beginning of the month.

We went to our playgroup's Valentine's Day party at Chuck E Cheese last week. This was my first time there with a child. Knowing my son, I figured he would wander around, watch, but play with nothing, which is what he did. I spent 30 minutes putting together valentine cards for his playmates and when we got there, everyone had an elaborately decorated shoebox for their valentines. I was proud that I got a red bag, put 'Joshua' on it and a couple of stickers. Obviously, I was not in the know that I was suppose to decorate a shoebox. Hello, he's not even 2! He didn't even care about the cards when we got home. I was more interested than him! So, I ate his candy, saved the playdoh for future use and reminded myself that next year, he needs a fancy shoebox.

Joshua also got sick last week with a sinus infection, so we spent most of the rest of the week dealing with that. It was great (sarcasm noted here), because I had dropped him off at school and as I was waiting at the doctor's office I got a call telling me he had thrown up all over the classroom. Hooray, we're now not only the crying kid, we're also the barfing kid at school! ;) We've been fortunate because he has never really been sick. He got sick once around 12 months, but that only lasted a couple of days and we never went to the doctor. So this was our first time dealing with a sick little boy and medicine. It was a little rough, but we got through it. He's feeling much better now, back to his constant jabbering and talking.

Other than this, we are finally starting to get used to school. Still cries when I drop him off, but yesterday was the first time he wasn't crying when I came to pick him up. The teacher had said he always started crying when the moms started coming to pick up. I assume if he was really crying all day they would have called me, so at least I know it's not an all day affair. I was so suprised/excited not to hear him crying...I almost gave him a present! But I didn't, so that was good!

We did manage to celebrate for Valentine's Day, so that was nice. We went out to a fancy dinner. That was actually fun because it was a 4-course dinner and the food was fantastic. As Joshua would say, "Num, num!" We are starting to get some projects accomplished around the house now that football season is over and we're not spending our weekends glued in front of the tv.

Here is a video of Joshua saying some of the words he knows. The first one is the chinese (cantonese, not mandarin) word for 'cat', but the rest is in so-called English. I'm sure I forgot to ask him a couple of other words, but these are most of them. His favorite phrases are "oh no" and "uh-oh". He likes to say them when he throws something he knows he's not suppose to and then pretend it's an accident, says "uh-oh" and hopes he doesn't get in trouble. :) Enjoy!

I cannot believe he hasn't been sick but once in his life! I am so impressed. You are so lucky - it is so hard to deal with sick kids. We seem to get sick all the time around here!
