So my son started out loving vegetables, but as he has gotten older, he is somewhat of a looker before he eats now and will refuse most vegetables unless it's in a soup or stew that he likes. Well, I can only make so much soup, so I found this interesting read on one of the other blogs that I read. I am desperate enough at times to actually consider looking into this. I figured some of you other moms I know might be too....

Size 3 Diapers
So this is just me being cheap, but technically, Joshua has outgrown his Size 3 diapers. But I tend to try and buy a couple of boxes at a time when they're on sale, so we have been squeezing him into the Size 3s that we still have. I actually don't think it's that bad unless he has a really full diaper, but everytime Derek changes him I hear, "Mom, we need new diapers!" We still have a box left....we will be wearing them!! We are not wasting them!
The other aspect is it means he's getting bigger and that makes me a little sad....so torturing him in too small diapers is a way to keep him small?? :) Plus, it costs the same most of the time to get less diapers....that's the biggest thing!! Too much money that I don't want to waste.

23 months
Joshua is 23 months today....time has flown and I can't believe he is about to turn 2 next month. He is currently Thomas the Tank obsessed, having to watch him a few times a day (not that we do..but some days to constantly here him say 'choo choo' and then sit on the chair sometimes drives me batty). He has no problem to keep saying it for up to 30 minutes! We have a couple recordings of the show from PBS and a DVD, so we are watching those. He has learned to say 'Thomas', 'hello' and to yell 'All Aboard!'. At least we're learning something from it!
Here's our 23 month picture from this morning. We attempted a spiky look on his hair with mixed results!
Our last day of school is this coming Tuesday, and we're a little sad about it. Joshua has grown a lot while he's been there and the difference is amazing. He finally stopped crying when I left him in the mornings last week....now that we're done with school! He has made friends there and it's cute to hear some of the stories the teacher told me. The cutest one is during naptime (they're still in cribs), him and another boy next to his crib like to 'talk' to each other and stick their fingers and blankets through the cribs. They also like to hug each other through the cribs too. I thought that was just too cute!
They got to have a class Birthday celebration last week and everybody got to have Rice Krispies...apparently he loved them so much he asked for 3rds!! They only gave him 2 helpings thank goodness. Here's a picture of him wearing his birthday hat. He wore it for about 2 hours last night!
Our other big accomplishment this past week is that we figured out how to drink from a straw!! I wasn't really sure how to teach him that skill, so I just bought a cup with a straw and let him play with it. I demonstrated a couple of times and then he just figured it out! Very proud!

Raisins, rocks and crackers. I have been having to keep a much closer eye on him lately than usual thanks to this latest discovery/experiment. If he gets one stuck, don't worry, I will be taking a picture!

Happy Mother's Day
A happy Mother's Day to all of my friends and family who are moms. We had a lovely weekend...nothing exciting, but quality time spent with my boys and that's all that mattered. I really love seeing my family interact with each other and as Joshua gets older, his personality comes through more and more everyday and it makes the family time more fun.
A short recap of what Joshua has been doing lately:
1) Derek went into his room yesterday morning to get him out of bed while I 'slept in'. I could still hear them on the monitor and this is what I hear. "Good morning Joshua...let's get you out....where's your diaper? Did you take your diaper off?" giggle, giggle.
We put him in just a t-shirt the other night to sleep in and apparently he woke up, took off his diaper and then peed all over himself. I couldn't help but laugh as I heard this exchange in bed. We won't be sleeping in just a t-shirt anymore!
2) We went to the zoo for our first time this weekend in Ft. Worth, weather be darned....it turned out the best because it wasn't too sunny or hot and the animals were out. I didn't go into this with the highest of expectations because Joshua has simply not shown any interest in animals...only when singing Old McDonald and in a puzzle. He wasn't a fan of my parents' dogs, but I thought we should go because it's one of those things we wanted to do with him. We definitely know he's ours because Derek & I don't really have much interest in animals either. Anyways, prediction came true...he showed really no interest in the animals, some minimal interest in the rhinos and giraffes, but was overall crabby while we were there. Here's a picture of him with Derek...he's more interested in his graham cracker than the animals.
Here's his happiest time at the zoo....on the fake car.
We got to ride a train also while we were there, we probably should have done that first and he probably would have been happier....always in hindsight.
3) Latest sayings are when we play peekaboo with him. We say "I see you" and he's taken to repeating us...it sounds more like "Ieeyou" in a really high pitch tone, but it's cute. Other thing is he will now say "cheese" for pictures. Here's a picture of his "cheese" face.
4) Finally, Joshua enjoys drawing a lot on his Magnadoodle these days. I like it because it requires no clean-up on my part...and he is very precise about what he draws. I wish I could understand what he's trying to draw. He is getting really good at circles which is amazing to me. Here's a picture of one of his drawings before he erased it.
Pretty neat huh?

If you're not sure of this reference, then you're probably not a child of the 80s....or simply did not watch enough 80s TV. The reason why I say this is because this is what Joshua says when he sees one in the sky and this is what I always think of. Swine Flu
So I spent this past week recovering from a cold that I caught from Joshua, but with all the news with Swine Flu (sorry H1N1 is not a cool name), it made me and everyone else a little more paranoid. Of course our VP Joe Biden didn't make matters any better with this little gaffe. I kept thinking maybe I had it and then had to remind myself that I wasn't running a fever, just feeling awful and watching too much news. I'm sure some people may have thought they got Swine Flu when I went out in public and hacked a lung, but oh well...had to get food for us to eat in the house and take Joshua to school! I tried to remember to use my 'Cough Pocket', but it's hard to remember that when you've been taught to use your hand! But everyone else here is pretty vigilant (paranoid). Our school district has closed the schools for a week and I can tell kids have nothing to do because our doorbell has been rung twice tonight as I see a kid dashing away.
It worked out well because the whole week was rainy around here, so we spent a lot of time indoors. The weather was really bad on Saturday. Here's some pictures of what happened to the Cowboys Practice Facility in Saturday. Luckily, we did not get this random microburst of strong wind, but it was pretty scary. We had to postpone a trip to the zoo, so we are hoping it's better weather this week.
Not much going on in the world of Joshua. He likes to 'talk' on his phone and it's funny to see him try and imitate what we do when we talk on the phone. He's also becoming a lot more vocal and parroting what we say. He's learned the word 'please', but he only uses it when asking for food and that's if he REALLY wants it and with some prompting.
