Cake Walk

We were in San Antonio last weekend visiting grandparents and after church, there was a fall festival there. When we went inside, there was a cake walk going on. After I explained to Joshua what a cake walk was and how you play, he was interested. Who wouldn't be when there are dozens of cakes sitting on the table?

We didn't win the first time, but the second time, Joshua won! I think I was almost more excited than him. Of course, I was a little worried about what cake he would pick...he was pointing out this ridiculous 3 tier cake that he liked. But, of course, this would be the cake he picked. :)

What I found most interesting about the whole think was that after he won, he kept saying, "Mom, I'm the ONLY one who won." The whole idea of 'everyone' wins when they play games and sports and things like that doesn't mean that kids like it. His statement to me about him being the only one winning is just an indication that kids need their own validation (even if it's just winning a cake walk), not everybody will win.
